A butchers bandsaw is a powerful tool which is used to cut meat on the bone making the process faster that using a traditional butchers kamlock saw. The butchers bandsaw uses a meat bandsaw blade which rotates at high speed which enables the cutting of meat on the bone, frozen meat as well as fresh and frozen fish.

To ensure you are buying the correct butchers bandsaw to suits your requirement you must look out for these main features.

  • Type of body
  • Motor
  • Throat size / cutting height
  • Health & safety regulations

Type of body

Butchers meat bandsaws are available in 2 body types, aluminum & stainless steel.

Aluminum body meat bandsaws are normally available in smaller sized table top bandsaws like the BEW SE 1830, these meat bandsaws are made from cast aluminum with a anodized coating to the outer enabling the user to clean the outside efficiently.

The cutting table is still made from stainless steel.

Advantage - These types of meat bandsaws is that they are cheaper to buy that the stainless steel version as they cheaper to manufacture.

Disadvantage- The aluminum body bandsaw are manufactured with cast aluminum and the inside of the bandsaw has a rough finish which makes the cleaning process more rigorous and time consuming.

Motor

Like any product you buy which runs uses a electric motor we need no ensure the motor size is sufficient for the purpose of the machine.

We believe meat bandsaws require a minimum of 1 HP for small table top meat bandsaw and HP needs to increase depending on the size of the bandsaw.

The last thing you need is a large bandsaw with a small motor which will heat up and eventually fail.

Throat size / cutting height

The throat size and cutting height of a meat bandsaw is probably one of the most important external feature on a meat bandsaw.

You need to ensure that the product you will be cutting on the meat bandsaw will fit through the throat of the meat bandsaw.

If its beef or venison that you will be cutting on a meat bandsaw then a Madock 290SS table top bandsaw would not be sufficient, the Madock 290SS table top bandsaw may well be able to handle the quantity due to its high quality, heavy duty motor and stainless steel build, but you will struggle to place the carcass through the throat due to its height restriction. This would mean having to cut the carcass into smaller manageable size so its fits through the throat, which is more time consuming and labour intense.

Health & safety regulations

Meat cutting bandsaws are very powerful tools and you must ensure that any meat cutting bandsaw that you consider buying has the relevant safety features.

All bandsaws at Butchers equipment warehouse are CE certified and go far and beyond what is required.
